My mentor told me to stop using floral foam for large events

She said it was bad for the planet and that chicken wire with moss would hold just as well. I thought she was stuck in the old ways, so I ignored her for a big wedding job in Savannah last month with 30 centerpieces. The foam blocks cost me over $200 and created a huge mess of wet green crumbs. Her chicken wire method would have been half the price and cleaner. Now I see her point, but I'm still figuring out the best moss to use. Has anyone switched from foam for big installs and found a reliable supplier?

Oh man, I switched last year and it was a game changer! I get my sheet moss from a local nursery, but for bulk I've had good luck with a place online called Moss Mountain.

Actually sheet moss is just one type. Sphagnum moss is what most people use for lining hanging baskets and it holds way more water. The flat sheet stuff is better for covering soil in pots to stop it drying out so fast. I made that mix up myself when I first started. What are you using it for?

Nah, I gotta disagree a bit. Sphagnum dries out way too fast in my experience unless you're soaking it all the time, sheet moss keeps things way more even.
