I finally tried soaking my ranunculus stems in warm water with a teaspoon of sugar before arranging them, and they lasted a full 10 days for a wedding in Charleston.

Has anyone else found a specific prep trick that actually extends vase life for a fussy flower?

A tiny splash of vodka in the water works for my tulips, idk why.

That vodka trick is wild. My buddy tried it on some droopy daffodils last spring after he heard about it. He used just a capful in the vase, like you said. They actually perked up and stood straight for almost a week longer. He said it was like they got a second wind. Still not sure how it works either.

Wasn't there a study about this a while back? I remember reading that a little alcohol can slow down the plant's growth and water use, which makes the flowers last longer. It sounds strange, but it makes some sense if it stops them from aging so fast. I've never tried it myself, but hearing it from a few people now makes me curious.
