Spent three hours on a single plank of engineered wood last Tuesday

It was a 7-inch wide piece that just would not lock on the short side, no matter how much I tapped. I finally had to shave a hair off the locking lip with a utility knife. Anyone have a better fix for a stubborn tongue and groove?

I read somewhere that a little bit of candle wax on the groove can help it slide in easier.

Honestly that's a disaster waiting to happen. Wax attracts dirt and dust like crazy, so you'll just gum up the joint over time. I saw a floor where someone did that and it left a greasy stain that never came out. You're way better off just sanding down the high spot or checking the alignment.

That "stubborn tongue and groove" reminds me of a time I had to glue down a whole row after the locking system failed.
