Paid $600 for a home inspection and missed the big mold problem

Inspector pointed out a tiny water stain in the attic, said it was old and fine. 3 months after moving in, found black mold behind the drywall in the same spot. Cost another $3k to rip it out and fix. Anyone else feel like inspectors just check boxes instead of actually looking?

I get where you're coming from but I see it a little different... inspectors can only look at what's visible. That stain in the attic was probably small and dry when they saw it, and they can't go punching holes in walls without your permission. I had a similar issue with a roof leak that took 8 months to show up inside the house. Sometimes mold hides behind drywall for years before it gets bad enough to notice.

Totally agree @the_eric, so much of life is just stuff hiding in plain sight until it's too late to miss!

Three years is a LONG time for hidden mold though.
