A homeowner in Denver told me his fence posts were 'good enough' after 18 inches

I was giving a quote on a cedar fence replacement and saw his old posts wobble. He said the original crew only went down 18 inches because the ground was hard, and that was six years ago. Half the line was leaning into his yard after a windy spring. I had to dig out three posts that were just sitting in loose dirt with no real concrete base. Has anyone else run into a job where the old depth was just plain wrong for the soil type?

My buddy's whole fence line tipped over from shallow posts in sandy soil.

Reminds me of a deck I saw that was just nailed to the siding. Some people will trust anything.
