Found a way to get free paint samples at the big hardware store by bringing my own tiny jars.

Just mix your own from leftover paint, like Riley said.

Vent: My GPS died on the Lost Coast Trail and I spent 4 hours trying to find the right creek crossing

Feel like I've been that guy staring at a map upside down before. Sometimes the obvious spot is only obvious after you find it. We can't all be route-finding geniuses.

Heads up about those cheap 'smart' telescope adapters

Yeah, the part about adapters pulling too much current is so real. I used to just buy the cheapest USB-C hub for my old camera. Fried the port in like a month because it was always trying to draw power for an external drive. Now I always check the manual's power specs first, it's saved me so much hassle.

TIL how much a single cedar post can shrink in a dry season

Wait, really? I've never had wood move that much on me. I mean, my back deck swells a bit in summer but a whole quarter inch like @reeseperez said seems like a lot. Maybe it depends on the type of wood or how it was dried? Idk, my stuff just gets a little tight or loose with the seasons.

Vent: I used to hand-cut every dovetail, now I just use a jig and feel a bit guilty about it

Honestly @umar59, that balance sounds good on paper. But where do you draw the line? If a client sees the jig work and loves it, then asks for more at the same price, you're stuck doing faster work for less money. It feels like the hand work side gets squeezed out bit by bit. Tbh, I've seen friends get stuck in that cycle where the "practical" side just takes over completely. How do you actually keep them separate without the client work eating up all your time?
