A workshop in Oregon changed my idea about anvil weight
I always figured a heavier anvil was better for all shoeing jobs. After traveling to a farrier workshop in Oregon, I saw how a lighter one can speed up work on ponies. The instructor showed techniques that made trimming easier with less bulk. Now I keep a lighter anvil in my kit for smaller horses.

Honestly, calling it overkill misses the point of having the right tool. A super heavy anvil just wears you out on smaller jobs for no real gain. The goal is working smarter, not just swinging a bigger hammer.

Took me years to admit my old anvil was just overkill.

@carter.laura, is an overkill anvil really that serious?

It's a real problem if it tires you out before the work even starts. A lighter anvil can actually make you faster on most jobs.
