Saw a 1950s Otis elevator still running in an old hotel in St. Louis

The thing still had the original manual folding gate and a mechanical floor selector. It made me think about how much simpler the systems were back then, even if they needed more hands-on care. Anyone still working on these old manual controls regularly?

That mechanical selector is just a few gears and levers, right?

Actually way more complex than it looks. Those linkages have to be precise for every gear change. Ever tried adjusting one?
