Controller board fried on a Friday at 4pm downtown

Had an Otis elevator go down hard last month in a 12 story office building. Found a burnt resistor on the main controller board and no backup in stock. Anyone know a reliable supplier that stocks those boards locally?

Burnt resistor on a Friday at 4pm downtown, that's a rough way to end the week. Everyone knows parts always go bad right before a weekend. Did you try calling around to any of the bigger elevator supply houses yet? Sometimes they keep old Otis boards in the back for situations like this. Your mileage may vary, but I had luck once with a place called Elevator Parts Warehouse over in the industrial district. They had a weird old board in stock that saved me from a shutdown.

Buddy of mine found an old board in a janitor's closet once. Weird but it worked.

You're right about timing, everything always breaks at the worst possible moment. I've seen it happen with clients who have old wiring in their houses too, right before a holiday weekend. The Elevator Parts Warehouse is a good tip, they've got a pretty solid reputation for hard-to-find stuff. Might also be worth asking the building maintenance guys if they've got a spare board squirreled away somewhere, you never know what they keep in their storage closets.
