I just hit 10,000 feet of wire pulled in a single house job
We were wiring a big custom home in Scottsdale, and the foreman asked me to keep a running tally. I figured maybe 5,000 feet total, but when we finished the rough-in, my count was 10,327. I mean, it was just me and one other guy over three weeks, pulling 12/2 and 14/2 for all the circuits and low voltage. It really hit me how much physical material goes into a place before the drywall even goes up. Has anyone else been shocked by a number like that on a residential job?

Honestly, that's just a normal Tuesday for a big house, isn't it? You start adding up every single run to a switch or outlet and the number gets wild fast. Bet your arms felt like noodles after all that.

That's actually not that much wire for a big custom home. I did a job last year where we pulled over 15,000 feet for just the lighting and outlets. 10k feet is pretty standard for a high end place. It sounds like a lot until you count up all the rooms and dedicated circuits. You probably just never added it up before.

Yeah, 10k feet sounds crazy until you picture it all snaked through the walls. I'd be more worried about the electrician's coffee bill for that job, lol. That's a lot of crawling around in attics.
