Finally gave up on drop cloths after that disaster at the hardware store parking lot

I was painting my living room last Saturday and hauled all my gear to the parking lot at Home Depot on Elm Street to load up. Spilled a full gallon of Behr paint on the pavement because my cheap plastic drop cloth slipped right off the roof of my car. That $35 mess made me realize I've been fighting with those flimsy things for years. I spent $60 on a heavy canvas tarp that same day and it stayed put through two coats of primer without a single wrinkle or leak. Has anyone else switched to canvas and found it actually saves you cleanup time in the long run?

Wait wait wait, you actually washed a canvas drop cloth? @nora_walker57 I thought those things disintegrated if they got wet. How did you not end up with a giant wet rag of paint sludge all over your laundry room?

Nah, hard disagree. Plastic drop cloths are cheap and disposable for a reason. Canvas holds moisture and gets heavy as hell. One bad wash and you'll have a soggy mess of lint and dried paint chips clogging your machine. No thanks.

Read an article from an old house blogger that said the same thing. Plastic drop cloths are basically just garbage bags pretending to be useful. They flap around in the slightest breeze and turn into slip n slides on smooth floors. Canvas is heavier but it actually stays where you put it. You can even wash and reuse them for years if you don't get too messy.
