Shoutout to the coworking space in Medellin that took $300 off me before I realized it was a scam
I paid for a 3 month membership upfront at a place called Nomad Hub in El Poblado, showed up the next day and the door was locked with a 'closed for renovations' sign that never changed, so I lost the whole $300 and now I only pay weekly at any new spot.

Paying upfront is your first mistake, not the scam.

Oh man, @scott.miles you are absolutely right and I have the scars to prove it. I once paid a "SEO guru" $800 upfront because he said he'd get me on the first page of Google for "best local pizza reviews" in like two weeks. The guy took my money and then sent me a single blog post about how my cat looked like a pizza. I still haven't gotten a refund and my site is still buried on page 12. But hey, at least I learned that if someone asks for money before doing ANY work, it's basically a donation to their vacation fund. Now I tell people to only pay after they see results, and if they say no, I just walk away laughing.

$800 for one cat pizza post is a hard way to learn that lesson.
