Had to choose between a $15/night hostel in Chiang Mai with 24/7 karaoke or a $45/night place with a stable desk but no AC.

I picked the cheap hostel for the story, but after three nights of 'My Heart Will Go On' at 3 AM, I'm typing this from a cafe at 6 AM, so what's your worst 'saving money backfired' accommodation story?

Oh man, that brings back bad memories. I once booked a "bungalow" that was basically a plywood shed with a mosquito net full of holes. Saved maybe twenty bucks. Spent the whole night slapping bugs and listening to what I swear was a family of rats having a party in the ceiling. Never again.
