Hit my 500th dad joke posted here and it felt weird

I was scrolling through my post history and realized I've shared exactly 500 puns in this group over the past two years. That's like telling a joke every day and a half without even thinking about it. Does anyone else track their joke count or am I the only one who gets surprised by that?

500 jokes and still got 500 to go before people start walking the other way when they see you coming. Better pace yourself or you'll run out of material.

That's a solid milestone. 500 jokes means you've got a real well to draw from. My buddy and I used to keep a running list on a napkin at the bar, and I think we hit 300 before the napkin got soaked in beer and we had to start over. Now I just count by how many eye rolls I get from my wife per week. She's at an average of 12.

That reminds me of something I read on a comedy writing blog, about how most joke collectors don't even realize how many they've stockpiled until they hit a random number like that. @shanem37 is right about the napkin system, too, I had a notebook for my first few hundred but it got coffee stains all over it and I lost track. 500 in two years is actually pretty steady output. A lot of dad joke enthusiasts burn out after the first 100, so hitting that mark shows you've got staying power. The weird feeling might be that moment when you realize humor has become this quiet routine in your life, like brushing your teeth but for your personality. Kelly's got a point about running out, but from what I've seen, good puns are like weeds, they just keep popping up.
