inPro tip: Dried beans vs. canned for a cheap chili
Also, think about the COOKING LIQUID. When you use dried beans, that bean broth is liquid gold for chili. It thickens everything up naturally with all that starch, so you need way less tomato paste or flour to get the right consistency. Canned beans just have salty water that you drain away. Plus, you can season the beans as they cook with a bay leaf and some garlic, which adds layers of flavor you just can't get from opening a can. It does take planning ahead, but for a Sunday meal prep it's totally worth the effort.

inRotary brushes beat hand rods every time on heavy creosote jobs
Did you try a soot-eating torch first on that 3-inch glaze? I had a chimney in Boise last December that had about five years of creosote baked into a solid shell, and my rotary brush tore through it in maybe ten minutes after the hand rods just bounced off the surface. That was the moment I realized the power tools are worth every penny on the real tough jobs.

inHot take: sheet pan dinners are overrated and mine just failed hard
My first sheet pan dinner was a chicken and veggie situation that literally turned into a science experiment gone wrong lmao. I set the oven to 375 like the recipe said and ended up with chicken that was both raw in the middle and somehow tough on the outside, plus carrots that were basically charcoal on one side and still crunchy on the other. I swear I followed the directions exactly but it was like the oven had a personal vendetta against me that night. Ended up ordering pizza at 10 PM and calling it a loss, so I feel your pain on that grilled cheese save. Now I just stick to one ingredient at a time on the pan because my multitasking skills clearly aren't built for culinary greatness.

inOld timer's advice on cutter head maintenance saved my shift today
Every three days might work in dry conditions but I've seen guys destroy their cutter heads in wet sand running that schedule. Day two the grease gets washed out completely if you're cutting through mud or silt. I run mine daily but only three pumps max, not the full six like some manuals say. Too much grease packs the seals and forces dirt in, but no grease at all lets water and grit straight into the bearing race. You gotta feel the housing temp and listen for the squeal, not just follow a calendar.

inUsed to think speed walking was just for old folks in malls
The first time I tried it I was at the Walmart parking lot in Lakewood and this guy in cargo shorts just zipped past me like I was standing still. I mean I was walking normal, not even dawdling, and he had this whole arm swinging thing going on. Made me realize I've been walking wrong my whole life. Now whenever I see someone speed walking I just think about that guy and his incredible pace.
