Just dropped $300 on a new mic and it's a total game changer
I was using my old headset mic for my videos and the sound was always a bit muddy. I finally bit the bullet and got a Shure SM7B after seeing it everywhere. The difference is insane, my voice sounds so much clearer and full now. Anyone have good tips for setting up the gain without getting that annoying background hum?

SM7B needs a cloudlifter for decent gain.

I see the SM7B hype everywhere but honestly my $100 AT2020 sounds just as good for podcasting. The cloudlifter thing feels like an extra tax for a mic that should work fine on its own. Most interfaces have enough clean gain these days if you're not recording in a noisy room.

Cloudlifter is a must like wesley385 said. That mic needs a ton of clean gain. Start with the gain on the cloudlifter all the way up before touching your interface. It kills the hiss from cranking a cheap preamp. What interface are you running it into?
