Overheard a customer bragging about scamming a free meal - my faith dropped
I was bussing tables last Friday at a diner in Akron and this guy at the counter told his buddy he puts a fake hair in his food every time to get the meal comped. He said he's done it 12 times this year alone at different places and never paid for a steak dinner once. It made me realize how many people abuse good service just to save $20. How do you handle customers you know are lying but can't prove it?

Nah man that's super disheartening. People like that ruin it for everyone else who's actually honest.

Yeah that's rough. I just give them a polite smile and comp it, but I keep a private note on their name for next time so the manager knows to watch them closely.
