That client who told me my color deposit was 'too neat'

Had a lady come in about 6 months ago, wanted a root touch-up on her red. I did my usual careful sectioning and painting along the part line. After I finished she looked in the mirror and said 'this looks too clean, I want it to look messier like I did it myself.' I was just standing there with my brush like... you pay me to do it right and you want me to do it sloppy? I ended up feathering it out with my fingers to make her happy. Anyone else get requests that go totally against what you were trained to do?

And you KNOW if you'd handed it over looking messed up from the start she would've been PISSED that you charged her full price for a hack job. But NO, now we gotta reverse engineer our training to make perfect color look like a drunken mistake. I swear some clients just want us to read their minds and then blame us when we can't.

I saw a TikTok from some artist who just started offering a "worn in" service for double the price and clients are actually into it lol. They basically rough up the color and fade parts on purpose but call it something fancy. Maybe @cameronn62 is onto something about needing a whole new menu option for these picky clients.
