Just figured out why some USB-C ports won't charge laptops
I was helping a buddy with his laptop that only charged from one USB-C port. It seemed weird since both ports looked the same. After some digging, I found out that manufacturers sometimes limit charging to just one port. On his model, the other port is only for data, which isn't always obvious. I checked the manual online, and it was right there in the fine print. Now I always double-check port specs before assuming anything. Saves a lot of head-scratching during repairs.

Ugh tell me about it, my last work laptop had the same junk. I spent an hour trying to dock it before realizing only the left port did video out. Now I literally put a tiny dot of nail polish next to the full function port so I remember. Always gotta read the tiny spec sheet or you're just guessing. Learned that one the hard way for sure.

Did you run into that yourself? I had the same thing happen with my last laptop. Both ports looked identical, but only one could charge it, which was a real headache. Checking the specs first like you did is the only way to avoid that surprise.

Yeah the nail polish trick is smart. Honestly I just put a tiny strip of colored electrical tape under the right port. Took two minutes and now I never grab the wrong cable. That spec sheet fine print will get you every time, like they hide it on purpose. Still gets me when the charger only works one way even with USB-C.
