Called out by a welder on a pipeline job in Louisiana for not cleaning my regulator before a dive

He told me I was gonna get a free lungful of rust if I kept ignoring the grit in the intake screen, and that one comment made me check my gear way more carefully ever since, has anyone else had a surface-side guy catch something you missed?

Read a diving forum where a guy said a rusty reg nearly locked up at sixty feet.

Feel that one deep down. Had a deckhand on a Gulf shrimper point out a crack in my drysuit zipper that I'd completely missed, woulda been a cold wet trip to sixty feet. Surface guys see stuff from angles we don't, plus they're not rushed on the dive schedule. That welder did you a solid, pipeline mud gets into everything and a gritty reg is no joke. Always good to have another set of eyes, even if they're covered in grease.

Used to blow off deckhands, but that story hits different now.
