Old school coffee shop vs the new coworking spot down the street

I used to go to Java Joe's every morning for 3 years, but last week I tried The Hive which has $3 drip coffee and fast WiFi. Honestly I miss the scuffed up couches and random conversations at Joe's, has anyone else switched and regretted it?

Does that new place feel a little too... quiet to you? I mean, there's something about a worn down couch and the smell of old coffee that makes chatting with strangers feel natural. Maybe the fast WiFi and cheap drip just can't replace that weird sense of community that builds up over time.

Val gives a good point about the quiet. Java Joe's had that low hum of chatter and a radio playing something old. The new place feels like a library in comparison, and not in a relaxing way. There was something honest about the worn out chairs and a mystery stain you just learned to accept. That kind of worn in feeling makes it easier to actually talk to someone, I think. Fast WiFi and cheap coffee can't buy that kind of comfort.
