Serious question, did anyone else think a French press was just for camping?

I used mine maybe twice a year until a barista in Seattle showed me how a 4-minute steep with a coarse grind from my local roaster makes a totally different drink. What's your go-to method for a lazy weekend cup?

Honestly a French press is my daily driver, not just for trips. That full immersion brew gets way more flavor out of the beans than my drip machine ever did. It's worth the extra couple minutes for a better cup, lazy weekend or not.

Jessica, what grind size do you use for your daily French press? I tried a coarse grind like most guides say, but I still got a lot of sludge in the bottom of my cup.

My old French press made coffee that looked like a mud puddle until I switched to a burr grinder. I set it two clicks coarser than what I use for my drip machine, which is way bigger than table salt but not quite pebble sized. Jessica's right about the flavor, but you gotta let it sit for a full four minutes after you plunge, don't rush it. That last bit of waiting lets the grounds really settle to the bottom.
