Shoutout to my old electric bill from 2018

Just saw it was $140 for a small apartment, now it's $65 with solar panels. Anyone else get that first bill after switching and just stare at it?

Wait, did you buy the panels or are you leasing them? I'm trying to figure out if the math actually works out after the upfront cost.

Honestly leasing can be the smarter move for a lot of people. That huge upfront cost to buy is a real problem, and the tax credit doesn't help if you don't owe enough taxes. With a lease, you get a lower, fixed rate for power right away without draining your savings. If the panels need repairs, that's the company's problem, not yours. Buying locks you into today's tech, but a lease might let you upgrade later.

Yeah we bought ours outright last year. The tax credit helped a lot with the upfront hit, and our electric bill basically vanished. It'll take a few years to break even, but leasing felt like a bad deal with all the fine print. What's your utility company charging per kilowatt-hour right now?
