Took me 3 tries to finally trust those clearance produce bags at Aldi

I always walked past the bruised fruit and veggie bags for like a year thinking it was just gonna rot in my fridge by day 2. Then I grabbed a $2 bag of peppers and onions last month and made fajitas for 4 meals easy. Anyone else found a hidden gem in those discount produce bins?

Grabbed a bag of apples from that section once. Half of them had weird soft spots by the next morning. Made a pie, but still felt like I wasted time picking around the bad parts. Peppers and onions hold up better since theyre tougher. I stick to the meat markdowns instead, those freeze fine and give you more control over what youre getting.

Real talk though, how do you pick meat markdowns that won't just taste weird after freezing? I always second-guess myself on which cuts actually hold up.

I always go for the clearance produce that's already a little past its prime but still firm, like those big bags of bell peppers or the spicy peppers for chili. If you roast them before freezing, they actually get sweeter and last forever. The soft fruits like berries or peaches are a gamble unless you're making jam or smoothies that same day, but I've had way better luck with the weird shaped eggplants and zucchinis nobody wants. Pro tip is to check the discount bin first and plan your meals around what's there, not the other way around. Saves me like 15 bucks a week easy.
