TIL boiling eggs with a splash of vinegar makes them peel so much easier...

I tried it this morning after seeing a tip on a food blog, and wow, the shells practically slid off. Before, I'd spend 5 minutes picking at stubborn bits and losing half the egg white. Now I just add a tablespoon of white vinegar to the water before boiling for 12 minutes on medium heat. Anyone else have a go-to trick for cheap protein prep like this?

Wait, do you put them in an ice bath after boiling? I just let mine sit in the hot water after I turn the burner off. That green ring is from overcooking though, try pulling them at 11 minutes next time. Also I've found poking a tiny hole in the bottom of the shell before boiling helps too.

Boiling for 12 minutes on medium heat" - see, that's where I always screw up. I just throw them in and hope for the best, which probably explains why half my eggs end up with that green ring around the yolk. That vinegar trick is solid though, I've been doing it for years. My question is, do you put them in cold water after they're done? I've heard that's supposed to help too, but I never remember to do it.
