Had to pick between chicken thighs and pork shoulder for under 5 bucks this week
I was standing in the meat aisle at my local market staring at a pack of bone-in thighs for $4.20 versus a small pork shoulder for $4.80. I went with the shoulder because it stretched further into three meals - pulled pork sandwiches, tacos, and soup. The thighs would have been easier but they only covered two dinners. Anyone else grab the bigger cut even if it takes more time to cook?

You said the thighs "only covered two dinners" but I think you're underselling them a bit. Bone-in thighs are super easy to shred too, so you could stretch them into at least three meals if you made tacos and soup from the leftovers. Not knocking your shoulder pick though, both cuts are solid for the price.

Not sure about that math - two thighs barely covers one dinner for my family unless I'm bulking them out with rice and veggies. You'd need at least four bone-in thighs to get a decent shred for tacos and soup.
