Got stuck in a three hour chatter lounge meeting that was supposed to be a quick check-in

Is there a law that says meetings must expand to fill all available time? It feels like every quick chat now needs a slide deck and a round of introductions from people who have nothing to do with it. The real work happens in the five minutes after everyone finally logs off.

Parkinson's Law is the one you're looking for, but it's about work expanding to fill time, not just meetings. The slide deck thing is a separate curse. It's like some people think a meeting isn't real unless there's a presentation, even for stuff you could say in two sentences. The intros are just a way to make sure everyone feels included, even when they shouldn't be.

Honestly I've found those intros can save time later. People know who to ask about what, so you get less back and forth emails. It's annoying but sometimes it works.
