Showerthought: I read a story about a guy who met his business partner after they both grabbed the same last bag of coffee beans...

It made me wonder if the best connections are truly random or if we just notice them more when we're open to it. What's your take on chance meetings versus making your own luck?

Exactly. You make the chance, then you take it.

Honestly, that last point hits home. I was in a terrible mood at the grocery store last week and almost snapped at a guy who was just asking about the avocados. Tbh, if I had, I would have missed that he works at the same gym I was looking to join. We ended up talking for ten minutes. It's wild how being even a little open can change a normal day into something more. You really do have to show up and not be a brick wall for the good stuff to happen.

Oh man, I was just reading about this idea called "serendipity engineering." It's basically setting up your life so you bump into more random good stuff. Like joining a club or just talking to people in line. So maybe it's both. You gotta put yourself out there for the chance meeting to even happen, but you also gotta be awake enough to see it when it does. If that guy was in a bad mood and just grunted over the coffee beans, no partnership.
