That client meeting in Santa Ana where I forgot the evidence binder

I drove all the way to a client meeting near the Santa Ana courthouse last Tuesday and realized I left the evidence binder on my kitchen table. The client was already waiting in the lobby and I had maybe 10 minutes to figure it out. I ended up pulling the key documents from my email onto my phone and talked through them on speaker while taking notes on a napkin. The judge actually let us proceed because I had the digital copies ready. Has anyone else had to scramble like that for a hearing and found a workaround that saved them?.

Held my breath when you said the client was already waiting in the lobby. That's the kind of heart-dropping moment where you just know you're about to look like a total amateur in front of everyone. But honestly, pulling it off with digital copies on your phone and a napkin is kind of brilliant in a pinch. I think most of us have had that split-second panic where you realize you're missing something critical and have to MacGyver it together. The fact that the judge was cool with the digital backup is honestly surprising, judges can be real sticklers in my experience, so you definitely lucked out there.

I mean, I get what you're saying, but forgetting a binder is kind of a big deal in my book. It's not just about having the info, it's about looking like you've got your act together when you walk into a courtroom. Clients are already nervous, and seeing you scramble with a napkin and a phone probably doesn't inspire a ton of confidence, even if the judge is cool about it. Idk, maybe it's just me, but first impressions matter a lot in those high stakes moments. Plus, relying on the judge being lenient feels like a gamble that could easily backfire with the wrong person on the bench.

Hot take but is forgetting a binder really that big of a deal? I mean, you had the digital copies on your phone, the judge was fine with it, and the client was probably just glad you showed up. People act like missing paperwork is the end of the world, but half the time nobody even looks at the binder anyway (especially if you're confident talking through the case). Getting creative with a napkin sounds like a fun story, not a disaster. Maybe we all stress too much about being perfect.
