Hot take: I tried using that new flexible fish tape from the supply truck on a tricky retrofit in an old San Antonio house and it just kinked on me halfway through a wall.

I mean, I had to cut open a whole new access panel to get it out, so has anyone found a brand that actually holds up when you need to push through insulation and around corners?

Ever think about the temperature of the fish tape itself? I left mine in the truck bed during a Texas summer afternoon, and that plastic core got so soft it was like pushing a wet noodle. Now I keep it inside the cab with the AC on if I'm not using it right away. A stiff tape going into a hot wall is just asking for a kink.

Yeah that "wet noodle" feeling is the worst... I bet @williamm82 is right about the hot wall too, the heat just soaks into everything. Makes you wonder how many kinks are just from a cooked tape.
