My bullet journal looked like a mess for years because I followed the 'perfect spread' trend

Three years ago, I started bullet journaling after seeing all those beautiful, complex spreads online. I spent hours every Sunday in my apartment in Denver trying to copy them, filling my journal with washi tape and fancy lettering. Last month, I finally admitted it felt like a chore, not a tool, and I switched to a simple two-page weekly layout with just a pen. Has anyone else ditched the artistic pressure and found a simpler system that actually works?

Consider the physical space a fancy journal takes up on your desk or in your bag. My simple notebook now fits anywhere, which means I actually use it instead of leaving it at home. That practical change did more for my system than any decorative border.

My friend Sarah had a whole drawer of unused gel pens and stickers. She finally just bought a basic spiral notebook from the drugstore last month and says she hasn't missed a single task since.

But does it really matter that much?
