Serious question, does packing light actually save you money?
I tried to pack only a carry-on for a two week trip to Europe. Many folks say it saves on baggage fees and makes travel easy. But the weather changed and I had to buy a jacket and shoes. That cost more than checking a bag would have. So I think sometimes it's better to pack a bit more.

Check the weather first.

Your point about the weather changing and having to buy a jacket and shoes is exactly what happened to me in Scotland. I packed a carry-on for what was supposed to be cool weather, but it rained nonstop for days. I bought a flimsy umbrella and a jacket that didn't keep me dry, wasting so much cash. Now I always stuff a thin raincoat and comfy walking shoes into my bag, even if the forecast looks perfect. Those items don't add much weight but save me from expensive tourist trap purchases. So packing light can save money, but only if you're smart about including versatile basics for weather surprises.

Last spring in Denver, I packed for mild weather but got hit with a late snowstorm. I had to buy a heavy sweatshirt at the airport, which cost way more than checking a bag. Now I always throw in a warm layer, even if the forecast looks clear.
