Found out the hard way that a 'free' walking tour in Prague isn't always free

I was in Prague last fall and joined this great walking tour group, thinking it was totally free like the sign said. At the end, the guide gave a whole speech about how they work for tips only, and the suggested amount was 500 Czech koruna per person (about $22). I only had a 200 koruna note on me, and the look he gave me was pure comedy (and a little guilt). It was a good tour, but I learned to always check the fine print on those 'free' city tours. Anyone else have a similar surprise with a 'pay what you want' tour?

Did you ever figure out if that 500 koruna was actually the standard tip?

I asked the hotel concierge and he said 200 koruna is plenty for most places.

Did the concierge say 200 koruna per person or total? Because @theac63, that seems way too low for a decent meal. I'd double check that advice before you stiff your server.
