Pro tip: check the unit price on cleaning wipes, not just the shelf tag

I spent a solid 45 minutes at the Target on Elm Street trying to figure out why my cleaning budget was through the roof. Turns out the big brand-name tub of Lysol wipes was actually $0.02 more per wipe than the smaller store brand pack. I had to use the calculator on my phone because the shelf tags only show total price, not per-wipe cost. That extra time at the store paid off, I saved about $3 a week after switching. Paper towels are actually where this trick helped me the most, I found the big "value pack" rolls are often thinner and you end up using twice as many sheets for the same spill. For laundry stuff, I check the cost per load instead of per ounce since some concentrated detergents look expensive but last way longer. It takes a few extra minutes with the calculator app but that weekly savings adds up faster than people realize.

Call out @williamm82 for making me realize I've been getting ripped off by "value packs" for years - those thinner paper towels are basically just expensive napkins with big promises.
