Found this trick for finding thrift store clothes that actually fit

I kept buying shirts at Goodwill that looked okay on the rack but fit weird at home. Then I started measuring the pit-to-pit width with my hand span before buying anything. Has anyone else tried measuring on the spot like that or do you just guess?

Nah, hand span measuring is actually genius, I'm stealing that.

Hold it up to myself real quick in the aisle" - see, that's exactly the problem. I've got short arms and broad shoulders, so holding a shirt up to myself tells me nothing useful. The hand span thing works way better for me because I can actually compare the shirt to my hand that I know fits in my other clothes. Plus I've learned the hard way that "close enough" at the store means "looks like a tent" when I get home. I'll waste more time returning stuff than I would just measuring it right the first time. Different strokes for different body types I guess.

bro "looked okay on the rack but fit weird at home" is just part of the thrift game lol. like you're gonna have some misses, it's not that deep. measuring pit to pit with your hand span sounds like overthinking it for a 5 dollar shirt. i just hold it up to myself real quick in the aisle and if it looks close enough i roll the dice. half the time i'll still buy it even if it's a bit off cause i can just tie it or layer it. it's goodwill not a tailored suit fitting, relax lol.
