Can we just appreciate finding a $5 thrift store cast iron skillet

I was browsing the Goodwill on Elm Street last Saturday and spotted a Lodge 10-inch skillet buried under some old Tupperware for $5. Got it home, scrubbed off a little surface rust, and now it's my go-to pan for eggs and hashbrowns. Anybody else score something cheap that ended up working better than the new stuff?

Picked up a beat-up Griswold #8 at an estate sale for four bucks about five years ago. Had a thick layer of crud on it but after a good scrub and a couple rounds of seasoning it's the slickest surface I've ever cooked on. Found a vintage cast iron cornbread pan at the same sale for two dollars and it makes the best cornbread I've ever had, crispy edges every time.

Picked up a dented Revere Ware saucepan at a yard sale for two bucks once. The thing has outlasted every nonstick pan I ever bought new, and the copper bottom still heats more evenly than my fancy All-Clad. Makes you wonder if we're all just paying for marketing hype and pretty boxes instead of stuff that actually works.
