Tried audiobooks for my commute last month and got way less done than I thought
I listen to podcasts all the time while driving but switching to a dense history book made me miss three exits in one week because I was too focused on the plot. Turns out my brain treats spoken stories different than spoken news or interviews. Anyone else find audiobooks harder to follow than expected on the road?

Slow down the audiobook speed, you will catch more than you think.

I missed three exits too, but because I was trying to rewind to catch a part I zoned out on. That's the thing with dense audiobooks - my brain treats the words like background noise the same way it does with music after ten minutes. I had to switch back to podcasts for driving and save the heavy listening for doing dishes or yard work. Now I keep a paperback copy of the same book at home so I can actually absorb the chapters I heard on the road. It's like my head just can't process a full plot while watching traffic.
