My book club advisor told me to 'just read the first chapter twice' and it backfired hard
So my friend Jen who runs our local book club swore by this trick where you read the first chapter twice before moving on. She said it locks in character names and themes so you don't get lost later. I tried it with our latest pick 'The Midnight Library' and ended up so focused on the first chapter I forgot to even finish the book by meeting day lmao. Showed up totally unprepared and had to fake my way through the discussion about regrets and alternate lives. Jen was laughing at me while I scrambled to catch up during everyone's wine refills. Honestly her advice works for her but it just wrecked my whole reading flow. Has anyone else had a book prep strategy totally blow up in their face?

Gotta laugh at Jen for setting you up like that. Sounds like her trick works about as well as telling someone to watch the first ten minutes of a movie twice and then guess the ending. At least you got to fake it through the wine refills though, that's always the best part of book club anyway. Next time just read the last chapter twice and pretend you had a deep realization about the ending.

Oh man, my friend tried that wine trick once and passed out before the discussion even started.
