Finally caught something in a book that nobody in my group noticed
I was reading "The Great Gatsby" for the third time and realized the green light isn't just about Daisy - it's about how Gatsby's whole life is built on a fake idea of her. I brought it up at my book club last night and four people told me I was reading too much into it. Has anyone else found a detail like that that your group totally missed or dismissed?

Honestly I think you're actually right about the green light symbolizing a fake version of Daisy, but it's not just about her being an illusion. It's also about the fact that Gatsby can never actually reach that light because it represents something that never really existed in the first place. Tbh your book club just missed the point.

Wait, does that mean I'm the only one in my book club who's been overanalyzing everything since my English degree? I literally thought I was being a book detective finding hidden meanings and turns out I'm just the weirdo who sees things that aren't there. At least now I know the green light is basically Gatsby's version of my social life - something I'm chasing that never really existed. How do you convince people to actually look at the text instead of just reading the words?
