That guy who takes 20 minutes to explain a single rule at game night needs to be stopped.
Last week at Mox Boarding House in Seattle, this dude spent half an hour going over the rulebook for The Crew while we all just wanted to deal cards and play. Has anyone else had to cut someone off mid-lecture just to get the game started?

Man, I feel this. It's like some people forget that game night is supposed to be about having fun with friends, not getting a college lecture on page 12 of the rulebook. Something about certain hobbyists just makes them want to take over and show everyone how much they know. I notice this same pattern in other places too. Like at work, there's always that guy who spends 20 minutes explaining a simple spreadsheet change when everyone just wants the bullet points. Or at the hardware store, some employee will drill you on the specs of a light bulb when you just need to know if it fits your lamp. These long-winded explainers think they're being helpful, but they're really just killing the mood and wasting everyone's time. Sometimes the best move is to just say "deal the cards, we'll figure it out as we go" and move on.

I mean @keithbutler, I get what you're saying but honestly I think the rulebook guy is just trying to help everyone enjoy the game more. Half the time when you skip the rules and just wing it, you end up with arguments or someone feeling cheated because they didn't know a rule existed. Explaining stuff in depth might seem boring but it actually saves time in the long run when nobody has to stop and ask later. The hardware store employee drilling you on bulb specs is annoying but you'd be pissed if you bought the wrong bulb and had to drive back. Long winded explainers might kill the vibe sometimes but they're usually trying to prevent bigger problems.
