I thought my friend was nuts for bringing a backup copy of Root to game night
We were at my place in Denver, six of us ready to start. I had the only copy of Root. My cat jumped on the table and knocked a full glass of soda right onto the board. The cardboard player boards were soaked, the ink was running. I was ready to call the whole night off. But my friend just pulled out his own copy from his bag, still in the shrink wrap. He said he learned the hard way after a similar thing with pizza grease on his copy of Scythe. We just moved the wet pieces to the side and kept playing with his new set. It saved the whole evening. How many of you actually bring backup games to avoid a total disaster?

Seriously? It's just a board game still in plastic. Not like it's the last copy on earth or something. People act like keeping things sealed is some huge crime. Games are meant to be played, sure, but it's their money. Who cares if they have a backup.

My buddy Mike had two sealed copies of Gloomhaven for like three years. He finally opened one last month and said the cardboard smelled like a new car.
