PSA: That 'canceled' show on Netflix might actually have a proper ending

I was scrolling through Reddit last night and found a post from a writer who worked on a show I thought got canceled after season 2. Turns out Netflix ordered a shortened final season to wrap things up, but they never labeled it as 'final' in the description. I checked the show page and sure enough, season 3 was right there and it finished the whole story. Now I'm wondering how many other supposedly dead shows have hidden endings. Has anyone else stumbled onto a finished show they thought was canceled?

@williams.jenny I gotta push back on that a little. Netflix is notorious for quietly dropping a final season without any fanfare (like the time they snuck in the last episodes of "Santa Clarita Diet" with zero promotion and just called it season 3). You'd be surprised how many shows get that treatment because they don't want to admit it's canceled, so they just dump the last batch and hope nobody notices. I found out "The OA" technically got a wrap-up season that nobody talked about, at least according to a writer's blog I stumbled on. It's not super common but way more shows than people realize have those hidden finales sitting in the library.

Maybe it's just me but I've actually found that most shows labeled as canceled really did just end abruptly without any closure. The ones that do have a proper ending usually have it clearly marked as a final season somewhere in the press releases. I'd guess that hidden final season is more of a rare exception than a common thing people are missing.

Honestly, it sounds like Netflix is running a secret treasure hunt where the prize is just getting closure on a show you already gave up on. I'm just waiting for them to announce a "hidden ending" for every show that got axed after one season, like some kind of streaming ghost story. Ngl, my favorite part is that they save the marketing budget by just hoping you'll accidentally stumble onto the finale while drunk at 2 AM.
