That lady at the garage sale told me to always check the bottom of ceramic pots and I thought she was nuts

So I'm at this garage sale last Saturday in the suburbs and I spot this really cute ceramic planter, like a big one maybe 14 inches across. The lady running the sale sees me eyeing it and goes 'honey you gotta flip it over and check the bottom for chips or a drill hole.' I'm thinking oh sure, she's just trying to upsell me on something else. Well I ignored her, bought it for $8, got it home, put a plant in it, and the next morning water's all over my windowsill. Turns out there was a hairline crack underneath I couldn't see. Anyone else get burned by ignoring advice from strangers at these things?

Learned that lesson myself @viola_ward when I brought home a "vintage" mug that slowly leaked coffee all over my desk at work.

Oh man, that's one of those things you learn the hard way. I've had the same thing happen with mugs from thrift stores that looked fine on the outside but had a hairline crack in the bottom. It's wild how a tiny little flaw you can barely see can ruin your whole morning. I always flip pots over now and run my finger along the bottom edge real slow to feel for anything weird.
