Switched from cup measures to a scale for bread dough last year

Used to scoop flour with a measuring cup for years. Loaves came out fine but never consistent. Bought a $15 kitchen scale on Amazon in January 2023. Now I weigh everything in grams for my sourdough. Has anyone else noticed how much more reliable their bakes get with weight?

Honestly, this post hits home for me. I had the exact same experience when I finally broke down and got a scale last year. My sourdough was always okay with cup measures but I could never figure out why some days it came out perfect and other days it was a sticky mess. Turns out I was packing the flour way tighter than I thought on those good days. It's wild how something so small can make such a big difference in consistency. Ngl, I felt a little dumb for not switching sooner but at least we got there eventually. Your loaves are probably way more reliable now and that's all that matters.

Getting a kitchen scale changed everything for me too. My pizza dough used to be a complete gamble until I started weighing the flour and water. Now I just do 500g flour, 325g water, 10g salt, and 2g yeast and it comes out perfect every single time. Saves me from having to guess if I packed the cup too loose or too tight.

Got a scale last summer and never looked back. Cup measures just aren't accurate for flour, depends how packed it is. Weighing everything fixed my hydration issues overnight. Loaves come out the same every time now. Hard to argue with results.
