Shoutout to the old guy at the Portland nursery

He said he never plants his tomatoes before June 1st, even if the weather looks warm in May. I always rushed to get them in the ground, but after trying his rule last year, my plants were way healthier. I guess that last spring frost is a real gamble. Anyone else have a hard date they stick to for certain plants?

June 1st seems way too late for my area. I've had great luck planting in early May.

Early May, @sean782? You must live in a different climate than the rest of us.

So you used to plant early too? I was the same, always putting tomatoes in mid-May. Then a late frost wrecked everything. Now I wait until after Memorial Day, and my plants are way stronger. That extra couple weeks makes a big difference.
