TIL my patio project used over 800 pavers
I just finished laying a small patio and the total came to 847 bricks. I always thought those big, fancy setups you see online were the only ones that hit numbers like that, but my simple 10x12 foot space proved me wrong. It mattered because it made me rethink the scale and cost of even a basic DIY job. Has anyone else been shocked by the material count for what seemed like a simple upgrade?

That paver count is a real eye-opener for sure!

My shed base needed 650 blocks and I was sure the guy at the yard counted wrong. Seeing them stacked in the driveway was a real gut check. I ended up renting a truck for a second load because my first guess was so off. It taught me to always do the math twice before I even start pricing things out.

Yeah, those numbers sound about right. A 10x12 patio is actually a decent size, people just don't picture the math. Each paver is usually like a foot long, so in a 10 foot row you're already fitting 10 of them side by side. Do that across 12 rows and you're at 120 just for one layer, and most patios are set in a pattern that uses way more. It adds up crazy fast, lol.
