Rant: My tent zipper failed on the Lost Coast Trail last week

The main door zipper on my 3-year-old tent just gave out halfway through the hike. It was raining hard near Shelter Cove and I had to use a bunch of binder clips from my repair kit to keep the door shut. Everyone says modern tent zippers are reliable, but mine failed under normal use. Has anyone else had a major tent failure like this on a remote trail?

My buddy's zipper failed on the Lost Coast too, @jesse_williams62 is right about the salt.

Binder clips as a fix is actually brilliant.

Honestly, "under normal use" on the Lost Coast? Ngl that trail is brutal, the wind and salt spray wreck gear. I'd be shocked if any zipper lasted more than a few trips out there. Tbh binder clips were a genius save though, that's going in my kit. Major bummer it happened in the rain at Shelter Cove, that's the worst spot for it.
