Yeah that "deeper than it looks" part is no joke. I watched someone get swept off their feet there last spring, so definitely scout the banks for a safer crossing upstream. The current is stronger than you'd expect.

How far upstream did you go? I mean, I once had to walk like a quarter mile to find a spot shallow enough to cross safely.

Last summer at Boulder Creek, I had to hike almost half a mile upstream before the water was knee-deep. The rocks were so slick I nearly ate it a couple times.
