Spent 3 hours trying to get a key out of a lock

So I was showing a house in the Brookfield area last Thursday. After the walkthrough, my key got stuck in the front door's deadbolt. Would not budge. I figured it was a quick fix. Tried graphite, WD-40, jiggling it, everything. Called a locksmith after an hour, but they were backed up. Ended up sitting on the porch with the sellers for what felt like forever, just talking about the weather. The locksmith finally showed up and had it out in like 30 seconds. Turns out a tiny piece of the key's plastic cap had broken off inside. Total time from problem to solution? Almost three and a half hours. Anyone ever have a simple task blow up a whole afternoon like that?

Right? It's like the universe demands you pay a time tax for the smallest inconvenience.

Actually, those three hours sound pretty productive. You got to know the sellers better and solved the problem without forcing the lock. @davis.ruby calls it a time tax, but sometimes the delay is useful. A rushed fix could have damaged the mechanism and cost way more later.

Isn't it funny how the simplest things can turn into a whole day's project? You go from a quick task to suddenly bonding with strangers over porch weather reports. Of course the pro fixed it in seconds, that's just how these things go.
