Finally got a stubborn 2008 Civic hybrid battery to take a charge after three days of trying.
The customer was ready to junk the car, but I kept cycling the 12-volt and checking the main fuse block. Yesterday, the pack voltage finally came up and the car started on its own (my boss said 'I guess you earned your coffee'). What's the weirdest trick that's ever worked for you on a dead hybrid system?

Reminds me how often the fix is just stubborn repetition. You try the same basic steps enough times and the system finally decides to cooperate. It feels less like skill and more like outlasting the problem.

Ha, been there. Honestly, the weirdest trick that worked for me was just disconnecting the 12v and leaving it unhooked overnight in freezing weather. Reconnected it cold the next morning and the hybrid computer just booted right up like nothing was wrong. Sometimes those systems just need a hard reset that the manual doesn't tell you about. You gotta get creative when the normal steps fail.

Man, that feeling when it finally wakes up is the best. I had a Prius that sat for a year and the only thing that worked was leaving a dumb little battery maintainer on the 12v for a solid week. Sometimes you just have to feed it constant low voltage until it remembers what it's supposed to do.
